What does “third-party” actually mean?
A third-party CoA is one produced by an analytical lab that has no financial relationship with the peptide vendor or manufacturer. The vendor sends a batch sample to an independent testing lab, pays for the analysis, and receives a report back from the lab. The report is the CoA.
The alternative is an in-house CoA, where the vendor or manufacturer tests their own product. In-house testing isn’t necessarily fraudulent — some manufacturers have real analytical capabilities — but the incentives are misaligned. A vendor testing its own product has direct financial motivation to report favourable results.

Search for the lab name plus “analytical” or “peptide testing.” Real analytical labs have websites, contact information, and often published capability lists. A lab that doesn’t turn up in search or that only appears in the context of peptide vendor CoAs is suspicious.
Some labs will confirm a report number if you email them directly. Not all will — some have policies against discussing client work with third parties — but the ones that do are the fastest way to verify a specific report is real. Ask the vendor for the lab’s contact information if it’s not on the CoA.
Cross-reference the lab’s address with public business records. Fake labs sometimes use real-sounding names but list nonexistent addresses. Google Maps or a business registry search catches these.
How do you verify the batch match?
The batch number on the CoA has to match the batch number printed on the physical vial you receive. Not the CoA that’s on the vendor’s website for that product line — the specific CoA for the specific batch of the specific vial in your hand.
Good vendors publish CoAs indexed by batch number so you can pull up the correct document. If the vendor only publishes one “example CoA” and doesn’t have batch-specific documents, you can’t verify the batch match. That’s the same as no CoA for verification purposes.
Batch numbers can look different on different documents. The manufacturer’s batch number, the vendor’s internal lot number, and the CoA’s sample identification may all be different strings. What matters is that the vendor can produce a document that clearly ties to the specific vial you received, through a chain that makes sense.
How do you check PDF metadata for fakes?
Right-click the CoA PDF and select Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac) to see file metadata. Real CoAs generated by lab reporting software show specific applications in the “producer” or “creator” fields — LabWare, Thermo Chromeleon, Agilent OpenLab, or similar analytical software names.
Fake CoAs often show consumer software as the producer — Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Canva, or similar. That’s a strong indicator someone created the document manually rather than generating it from lab systems.
Metadata can be scrubbed or faked, so absence of suspicious metadata isn’t proof of authenticity. But presence of Photoshop or Canva as the producer is a very strong signal the CoA was manufactured, not generated.

What if the vendor stalls on providing the CoA?
Some common stalls: “the batch is still being tested,” “the CoA is with our supplier and we’re waiting for it,” “we can send you a sample CoA from a previous batch.” All of these are polite ways of saying no batch-matched CoA exists.
A legitimate batch has a completed CoA before it goes on sale. If the CoA doesn’t exist yet, the batch isn’t ready to ship. Vendors who are transparent about not having a CoA for a specific batch are being honest but shouldn’t be selling that batch as tested material.
